About Lowfield

Lowfield Coffee Roasters began in 2015 in a corner of a Collingwood warehouse, with a second-hand 5 kg roaster and one grinder. Nell Varga, our founder, wanted a roaster that people could walk into, with a café at the front and the roaster at the back, so that you could see the coffee being made.

Today Lowfield has four cafés, a bakery, a tea bar, an academy and a wholesale team. The roastery, the bakery and the academy are still in the Collingwood warehouse. The cafés in Brunswick, Richmond and South Melbourne are supplied from there every morning.

How we work

• We roast in small batches. Theo and the roasting team write a profile for every coffee and taste each batch before it goes out.
• We bake every morning. Frida's team starts at 3:30 am. Everything is made from scratch in Collingwood.
• We teach. The academy runs classes because people who understand coffee make better choices, and because our team learns a lot from teaching.
• We write down what we know. The producers page and the journal say where our coffee comes from and how we make it, in plain words.

Our places

Four cafés: Collingwood (17 Easey Street, Collingwood VIC 3066), Brunswick (Sydney Rd and Union St), Richmond (Swan St and Church St) and South Melbourne (Clarendon St and Coventry St). The roastery, bakery and academy are in Collingwood.
